Dear Cosmetic World
Dear Cosmetic World
Dear Cosmetic World,
Our young girls are victims of ‘cosmeticorexia’, the unhealthy obsession with achieving ‘flawless’ skin. Their skin is flawless to start with, so why the pressure to pursue unnecessary cosmetics? Please stop.
Here is what is happening to our girls after their skin consumes the following additives found in so in many commercial cosmetic products.
Irreversible developmental and behavioral issues caused by lead and heavy metals
Toxicity and cancer by the overused preservative Formaldehyde
Onset of early puberty and reproductive toxicity caused by Phthalates
Onset of early puberty and long-term risks of breast and ovarian cancer by Paraben preservatives
Onset of early puberty by the sunscreen ingredient Oxybenzone
Girls who are into this cosmetic ‘rabbit hole’ often start menstruating earlier. Their skin can react to these chemical additives causing redness, rashes and long -term sensitivity and damage.
It is not just the actual skin care routine being imposed on these young minds. The pressure to belong is a harsh reality.
What can we teach our children?
Teach our girls about social media pressure, set the boundaries and teach them how algorithms and psychology work. Be a role model.
When it comes to skin care, feed your skin healthy products. Children do NOT need makeup (the target market is no longer just women 30-40) . Young girls definitely need only a basic skin routine. A natural soap /shampoo bar, some moisturizer and zinc when necessary. Feeding their young skin healthy nutrients is wise.
Dear Cosmetic World,
Please stop targeting our children.
