What is in YOUR lip balm?

on baume à lèvres ?

Your lips feel dry or uncomfortable, so  you apply your lip balm.  In no time, your lips still feel dry, maybe even sore.  More balm is needed.  So you re-apply.

The never-ending frustration.

Why this madness?  Your lips are rebelling against the many unhealthy ingredients in your lip balm. These ingredients have been added with the intention of achieving a certain goal.

BUT that does not mean they are doing a good job.

Jobs intended

  1. To increase the shelf life: Parabens

  2.  To make it taste good: Artificial Fragrance and /or Flavour

  3.  To offer sun protection: Chemical sunscreens

  4. To feel cool: Menthol, Phenol, Camphor

  5. To make a protective barrier: Petroleum and mineral oils

While the intention is attractive, beware of the ingredients chosen to accomplish the goal. If you see ANY of the above ingredients BEWARE. There are healthy ways to nourish your lips (and skin) without having to resort to synthetic additives.

INSTEAD

Choose a lip balm with a base of beeswax, shea, castor, or coconut. Look for natural ingredients that will accomplish the job you desire in a lip balm.

Your research may suggest Vaseline as an approved alternative.  While vaseline may be preferable to your current commercial lip balm, there are considerations and better choices. I have written several blogs you may find informative.

Vaseline over coconut? I don’t think so

Choose Shea over Jelly
